What kind of man was Mitt Romney's father, George, once a presidential contender himself?

I remember him vaguely and think he contended against Nixon in the late 60's for the GOP nomination, so Mitt does have strong, well-proven GOP roots and is not a RINO as he is being called by the Far Right.
