I'll probably be telling you things you already know, but bear with me. Be sure the smooth side of the belt goes against the smooth pulleys and the ribbed side of the belt goes against the ribbed pulleys. On my car and truck, there's a bolt head on the idler pulley that I have access to. I use a 5/8 in socket (yours may be a different size) and a long handle bar to release tension on the pulley. That allows me to easily slip the belt onto the idler pulley (the last pulley that I place the belt onto).
